Top 5 Reasons Why Net Neutrality Maybe a Bad Idea

These days there is a lot of hue and cry about net neutrality in our country. Firstly, let us understand what net neutrality is. It is basically the principle which allows the ISPs to treat all data on the internet at par. It does not discriminate the users on the basis of content, platform, sites and apps. The violation of the net neutrality was witnessed in 2007 when an ISP discriminated its customers and came out with different packages for peer to peer communication, online gaming and ftps etc. However, contrary to the support that it is getting from the masses it may not be an excellent idea to push for net neutrality for the following reasons.

It devoids of better customer experience

In the current scenario, more or less all ISPs provide similar kind of services and plans to its customers. As they cannot customize or create special package for the customers due to the lack of interest (as they know, you will shell out anything extra) they offer generic services devoiding you of special treatment.

It discourages small businesses

The reason why internet giants like Google are favoring net neutrality is because they fear that more interesting business competition will come up. Net neutrality helps to create entry to barriers as its not easy to compete with the popularity of an established business. Imagine you taking on big names like Yahoo, Google, Skype etc. In absence of net neutrality, you have a good chance of establishing a new site or app which may take on them.

Without it, you may get a LIFE

With increased tariffs and charges, the time spent online will definitely be reduced and thus you will have more time for yourself and your loved ones. This generation is devoting to much time on gadgets and tech which can be put to more enjoyable and productive uses.

Many criticizers of net neutrality argue that even if net neutrality is done away with, there will be an ad-hoc mechanism for net neutrality as they feel that there will be heavy competition in ISPs to provide the best services at the lowest possible cost.

Data discrimination will be stopped

The current internet is not neutral and generally favors the ftps and other non sensitive traffic rather than the real time communications thereby reducing the bandwidth for the latter. When the net neutrality will be done away with, it will lead to appropriate traffic generation which can be put to more apt use as per the preferences of the customer.
