All it took was little more than 8 years as to build Delhi Metro Phase 1 as compared to 22 years for Kolkata. Ever since Phase 1, Delhi Metro has been spanning its web across various parts of Delhi/NCR and boasts of having a yearly ridership which is more than a population of several other countries including USA. You may be a regular commuter of Delhi Metro and may have been traveling in it for years, but chances are quite high that you may not be knowing the following facts about the prestigious Delhi Metro.
1) Disabled Friendly
Have you noticed the tiled yellow line on the station platform (Not the other yellow line running along the track)? They are not there for beautification but they serve as a pathway for blind and specially abled. They are carved from platform directly to the lift, further leading to the exit. If requested, DMRC provides a guard to the specially person to help him/her and escort till the next station where the next guard takes over till the person completes his metro journey.

2) No dustbins
You will not find any dustbins at any Metro station. Its amazing to see the stations looking so clean in-spite of this. The primary reason why DMRC opposes keeping dustbin is to discourage eating, drinking and throwing litter around the station.

3) When the lights go out
Another thing that you will have noticed is that sometimes power goes off and the ACs stop working in the coach. This is due to the Power Shift in the metro. The sub stations or neutral zones have limited power supply capacity and thus they juggle between various substations to keep the process moving. Thus, during this shifting of source, there for a few seconds the ACs and lights go off.
4) Sari Guard
This engineering marvel has also considered Indian sentiments. As metro commuters are always running, which can be dangerous for the escalators DMRC has installed a sari guard feature in the escalators which prevents the loose clothes from getting trapped leading to injuries.
