Five Types of Bosses & How to Deal With Them

An office is incomplete without a boss or rather a Big Boss. As the corporate scenario went a great change over the last decade or two, it lead to the rise of several types of bosses, some good, some bad and some may be worst. Your working style and your satisfcation level at work has got a direct proportion with your boss's attitude. Considering today's corporate scenario, following are the type of bosses that you will find. Find out in which category your boss falls.

1) The "Big Boss"

He is still living in late 80s and early 90s era where the notion "Boss is Always Right" holds true. He will want you to knock the door before coming in, ask security guards to salute him, will make the people wait to see him and loves to be addressed as "Sir". Chances are high he is nearing his retirement and taking out his frustration on employees.

How to deal with "Big Boss" - 1) Wait for his retirement
                                           2) Behave like a robot. Follow everything by the book.


2) The Buddy Boss

He is chilled out. Wants to be part of the team and loves to be addressed by his name. He will get pissed off if you do not call him for team outings or smoke breaks. He gels with the team and his office doors are always open for everyone and anyone to walk up to him.

How to deal with "Buddy Boss" - 1) Treat him like a buddy, at the same time respect his authority

3) The "I dont care" Boss

He is in his own world, maybe because of lack of skills or due to lack of interest in the work. He will hardly poke you or assign work. He is a firm believer of the fact that the work will be done by someone and there is absolutely no need to panic. He doesn't know about half of the work which is to be done and does not take interest on the other half of the work.

How to deal with "I Don't Care Boss" - 1) Let it be. He cant and wont do anything.

4)  The "Smart Ass" Boss

He is sharp and probably in his mid 30s to late 40s. He wants to grow in the organization but the problem is he doesnt have the business acumen and expertise, thus he relies on his team. He will change the "Prepared by" section of your presentations and documents and present to the top bosses only by himself to show them how good and indispensible he is.

How to deal with "Smart Ass Boss" - 1) Only smartness can kill smartness. Show him you are not easy to fool.

5) The "Boss"

He is best among the lot. He has great skills and possess desirable experience. He knows the business can only grow if employees are happy.  He will keep doors open for communication, maintain apt distance from the employees and gets the work done the way it should be done.

How to deal with the "Boss" - 1) Only your work can impress him. Avoid boasting or appeasing him by things other than work.
